This past weekend, on World Glacier Day, I was surprised and tremendously honoured to receive a medal from the United Nations for outstanding personal commitment to the UN International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation.

When I first started doing aerial acrobatics in glaciers a few years back, it was just for fun. I loved the challenge of performing in such a tricky environment, and I was deeply inspired by the beauty of glacial ice. It all felt fun and special and downright sparkly. ✨

And then, I lost my home in the Jasper wildfire. Reflecting on both the fire and the changes I’d been witnessing on the glaciers, it really struck me how fast climate change is hitting and how much we all have to lose. However, I also learned that the hidden power of loss is to remind you how much you care about something. And connecting with what you care about is a great way to clarify a path forward.

Performing in glaciers continues to be fun (and certainly sparkly), but these days what I really treasure is the opportunity my art gives me to share the wonder and awe I feel on a glacier. I am convinced that once you get a sense of that magic, you too will care - and feel compelled to protect.

We returned to Canada with one pressing question: why on earth don’t we have bidets here?!

It’s always a treat to perform in a castle, let alone in the fanciest ballroom! We pulled out all the dazzle for this private event, and it paid off - high energy, high glam, and so much fun for everyone. 🤩

LUNA Fest last weekend was my first solo performance since the wildfire, and it was both everything I hoped for and not at all what I expected.

Between losing my training space in the fire and relocating to Revy, I took a full 10 months off of training and when I restarted I felt ALL the inadequacies - not strong enough, lost my flexibility, spin tolerance gone, I’m too old now, maybe I just never perform again. The gremlins were numerous, and they were loud.

I almost pulled out of LUNA Fest more times than I can count, and it was only thanks to the gentle but consistent encouragement of Marcus & some close friends that I didn’t. I was convinced it was going to be terrible, and it would be obvious to everyone that I had no business being in the air.

I’m so glad I made it onto the LUNA stage, because sure enough all those gremlins were wrong. More importantly, I had FUN!

The best part? Performing for sparkly pink jellyfish 😉

Ginormous thanks to the folks who convinced me not to quit, to @lunaartfest for hosting such an incredible event, and to @artsrevelstoke for giving me the training space to find my wings again.
